KBA delegation attended a UN workshop in Istanbul

On Thursday 3-11-2022 in Istanbul, a delegation of the Kurdistan Bar Association (KBA) led by Dr. Parez Najmadin Mantak and members of KBA council members Bzhar Akram Allaf and Abdulaziz Omar participated in a workshop in Istanbul, which was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, with the support of the Government of the Netherlands, titled “The role of defense lawyers in representing and supporting victims of terrorism during criminal proceedings to ensure a fair trial and respect for human rights”.

The workshop was a part of the project to support the victims of terrorism, in the light of the provision of criminal justice, for the benefit of the Iraqi government, which is supported by the Dutch government.

The workshop, which was attended by representatives of the Kurdistan Bar Association, Iraqi Bar Association, judges, lawyers and experts in the field, lasted for four days.

On the first day of the workshop, Dr. Parez Mantak, on behalf of the President of the Kurdistan Bar Association, read a speech in which he thanked UNODC and the organizers of the workshop. He also mentioned the laws and provisions that the Kurdistan lawyers rely on, and also mentioned a number of legal proposals, which are reasons to fight terrorism and assist the victims of terrorism.

The workshop continued until 6-11-2022 and several topics were discussed under different titles and Mr. Bzhar Allaf presented a topic related to the title of the workshop for the participants. 

At the end of the workshop, the participants evaluated the workshop, wrote down the recommendations and certificates were distributed on the participants.
